Well, whatever the reason, I'm glad, as I'm sure celebrity is also, that there have been no problems lately. Maybe between different operating guidelines and new maintenance procedures, the problem has been mitigated.

I also embrace the good news for all passengers that there have been no POD failures on Celebrity since last May. I am also starting to lean toward the theory that maybe it was either over eager Captains who exceeded the manufacturer's guidelines as to how much stress they could put on the PODS. Either that, or possibly better maintenance procedures have reduced the wear on the bearings in the PODS. Whatever the reason for the sake of all cruisers, I hope the trend will continue.

I certainly hope the trend continues, as I'm sure Celebrity does.

I'd be very surprised if it was over eager Captains. The Mermaid Pods would have been designed with specific tolerances built in and I'm pretty sure they would have been operated in accordance with those tolerances. All the information I have seen with regard to the bearing failures, including Celebrity's issued lawsuit seems to point toward a fault in their design for this particular ship class, hopefully which has now been sorted out.

Not many problems lately. It seems that all of the fixes are taking effect.

The last emergency dry dock was Millennium in December 2006. So yes - it seems they finally have the problem solved or at a minimum under control!

Hi Phil: You may very well be right and my post was just two of the many theories as to why the Connie, which uses the very same propulsion system has not had even one problem since its launch in 2002. Common sense would lead me to believe that if Celebrity really has found a fix for the persistent POD problems they would be shouting it from the rooftops. To date, I have not heard any such announcement.

Just to correct a post that stated that there have been no POD problems since 2006. That is totally incorrect as there were two POD failures in 2007, one each on the Celebrity Infinity and Celebrity Millennium. The Infinity's problem began in November 2006 and the Millennium's problem began December 31 2006. I guess that technically it could be said that no problems started since the end of 2006 but that would be stretching the truth quite a bit since the repairs were not made until April 2007 for the Millennium and the repairs were not made until May 20, 2007 for the Infinity. Celebrity still does have a lawsuit going against one of the manufacturers of their propulsion system.
