Celebrity has had years to figure this out. I can't imagine that everything we have mentioned hasn't been thoroughly investigated and whatever is needed to make a permanent fix discovered. The whole freakin pod assembly could have been replaced for, I would guess, less than what has been spent already. The Radiance class ships of RCCL are on the same hull as the Millie class ships. If I'm not mistaken they use a different pod system and they have been relatively trouble free.
Reggie, I agree that for what these on-going pod problems have already cost Celebrity and they are continuing to be a huge financial burden on the bottom line, that the decision to "patch and go" does make one wonder.
The high cost, not only in dollars, but the reputation of the cruise line is also being tarnished by these recurring pod problems. It is indeed a mystery as to why the Constellation has had only one pod related problem and that was, as you mentioned, at the time of launch, while the other three Celebrity M-class ships seem to fail at least once every year.

What's even stranger -- the problem wasn't even related to the problems that keep hitting the other ships. It was "just" a bad seal. In terms of bearings, the Constellation has been a notable exception.
I'm really glad that we can discuss this problem without bashing Celebrity. This is something everyone who sails on Celebrity should be aware of and make a decision to sail or not sail. We at CLF can discuss things calmly and do it with respect to each other and the parties involved. I am sure that Celebrity and Alstom would love for this problem to just go away. But that will not happen if they just ignore it and I don't think they have been. Those affected by the cancellations should write letters to Celebrity and make their displeasure known to them in a very clear message. That is what will facilitate a solution to the problem. Bashing Celebrity here will not accomplish that. I will request that this thread be made a sticky and it will then remain in the limelight. As long as we can discuss the subject with civility, it will remain there. If the bashing were to start, it will be closed and there will not be a place where we can discuss and document what will lead to an eventual solution to the "Pod Problem".
Apart from the ongoing court battles with the manufacturer and installer, I don't ever hear anything about discussions between Celebrity/RCCL and Alstom. Have you heard anywhere that there's been any progress at all in understanding the base engineering problem that's got them all into this very deep and expensive ditch?

Broken record here, but there is no such thing as a "bad seal". And I'm presuming you are talking about an oil seal, right? If so...there are bad installation techniques, bad lubrication practices, bad designs. Mostly it boils down to "people". Kinda like the the ol saying on a computer, garbage in..garbage out.
