Since its inception in 1989, Celebrity has held true to its original commitment of taking the very best aspects of classic, elegant cruising and updating them to reflect current lifestyles. In 1997, we merged with Royal Caribbean International to form Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
What sets Celebrity apart from other vacation choices today is the cruise line's passionate dedication to providing guests with a cruise experience that exceeds expectations. This extraordinary performance level has become the definition of Celebrity Cruises, and has set the worldwide standard for today's expression of what first made cruising famous -- high quality, superior design, spacious accommodations, grand style, attentive service and exceptional cuisine.
The excellence of Celebrity's existing cruise product continues with the cruise line's Millennium-class ships, which embody even greater technical achievement and meaningful innovation, while retaining the distinctive style, sophistication and service elements that have become the hallmark of a Celebrity cruise.
History
Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1989 with the objective of fulfilling the travel industry's need for a high-quality, premium cruise product at an intelligent price. The company was determined to set a new, worldwide standard for cruising, and to create a distinctive expression of superior quality, grand style, attentive service, spacious accommodations, and exceptional cuisine.
Believing that the dining experience is an essential part of a quality cruise vacation, Celebrity custom-built galleys to create the finest gourmet cuisine at sea, preparing everything from scratch, using only the finest, freshest ingredients. Celebrity established then, and maintains today, a vital relationship with renowned Master Chef Michel Roux, who has served as the line's revered culinary and wine consultant since its founding. Roux designs the line's menus and culinary program, and supervises training of the fleet's executive restaurant staff. His award-winning culinary expertise and contributions quickly established Celebrity as a leader in offering guests an extraordinary dining experience at sea.
The first ships introduced to the Celebrity fleet - Horizon and Zenith - successfully combined contemporary design elements with the elegant icons of traditional cruising. The next generation of Celebrity ships, the Century-class - Century, Galaxy and Mercury - reinforced the line's reputation for integrating high style, spacious interiors, attention to detail, and a commitment to innovative technological applications to enhance guest convenience, comfort, recreation and safety.
Along with the launch of the Century-class fleet in 1995, Celebrity created another industry first: a luxurious spa experience within the environment of a cruise ship, with the introduction of the AquaSpaâ by Elemis.

Hello, I have experienced cruises on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, NCL and Carnival. Hands down I would pick a Celebrity cruise over any of the other cruises lines i have been on thus far. EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL!!!!!
Just did my first Celebrity Cruise after 5 RCCL and I have to say the experience was outstanding. The Mercury wass in beautiful; shape and the service in all respect was un parralled.
I particularly liked the small eating venues such as the morning waffle station, lunch pasta and pizza bar, sushi bar and hamburger, hot dog statikon near the pool area. Looking forward to my next experience transiting the Panama Canal in 2007 on the Summit.
Celebrity does offer excellent food, service and entertainment.
All prospective passengers should be aware of the propulsion (pod) problems on Celebrity M-class ships. The Infinity, Summit and Millennium have had the most pod problems.
These three ships have had fourteen emergency dry docks since the introduction of this Celebrity class of ship in 2000. All have resulted in shortened itineraries and cancelled cruises. The Constellation has the best record of the M-class ships with only one pod failure since its launch in 2002.

Just to keep the facts straight, the Connie has not had a pod failure since it's launch. The pod seal was leaking and repaired prior to it's first sailing.
