    Century Cabin 1242

My partner and I just finished researching Cabin 1242 on Century and were disappointed to find out that the visual layout and description did not match the reality. Instead of having floor to ceiling glass sliding doors as in other suites, there's a single door that does not allow a view of the ocean. Also, the room appears to have actually been built out onto what is shown as the verandah in the diagram. Has anyone had any luck when booking this room having it changed in advance of the departure?

Cabin 1242 has no privacy at all from the Sunset Bar below it. If there is another cabin available I would change it in a heartbeat! We were in 1246 and would not book that one again because of the lack of privacy and the view of the dirty canvas covering the Bar.

Here is what folks in the bar see looking up to your balcony

Thanks for the information. You've confirmed what we're afraid of. We're currently in touch with our travel agent who is trying to have us reassigned to another cabin. We had taken another Celebrity Cruise on a different ship several years ago and booked one of the aft cabins and it was great--private, with a large deck and indoor space, and an ocean view. That's why we booked this cabin orginally.

You are quite welcome I hope yo can be moved to a cabin more to your expectations.

The aft cabins on the Millennium class ships are wonderful! We have sailed in a lot of those....and our favorite is the corner FV cabins with the huge extended balcony. When Celebrity redesigned the Century they ruined it, in my opinion. The additional balconies along the aft on the decks below the Sunset Bar don't have any privacy from above (unless they have put the little 1/2 canvas coverings lover the balconies like on the Mille class)

The rest of the ship and service is wonderful! It's just those new balconies!

Our travel agent contacted Celebrity, and they gave us an an upgrade to a Family Ocean View with Veranda. The cabin is located in the aft again and two decks below the Sunset Bar, so hopefully we will have some privacy. We're just content with the fact that we will now have a cabin, a spacious one at that, that will have the floor to ceiling glass sliding doors with a view of the ocean from within.

Thanks again for your information. CHAR.

Glad you could get a better cabin! There will be privacy on part of your balcony---back toward those floor to ceiling glass doors. The rest is out in the open, but that should not be a problem.

    Loved cabin 1242

My family and I have just recently taken a cruise and stayed in cabin 1242 and we loved it. The location is great. It is 1 floor up from the Islands Cafe, a few floors up from the main dining room, and a short trip down the elevator to the Fun Factory and casino. The size of the cabin is actually closer to 280sf and the balcony is huge. If you would like the extra space of a suite at a much cheaper price this is the cabin for you. Our friend stayed in the CC class cabin and it was tiny! It felt like a janitors closet with a bed.

Now for the bad, yes there is a little noise once in while from the bar. It was not that bad. As for privacy, who cares if someone looks up at me drinking my coffee in the morning from the lower deck. I could look into all the SV balconys from the sunset bar. It is the price you pay for a great view off the back of the ship.

To sum things up, I would book another room like this in a heartbeat. This cabin might not work for everyone but the postives outweighed the few negatives. I hope this helps someone.

    Char,

Do you recommmend against any of the aft cabins on 12? I currently have 1253 booked for a 15 day San Diego to Hawaii and back. I'd like an aft since we'll enjoy the balcony on sea days.

    Hey Diane!

Well...I, personally, wouldn't book 1246 again. It is the cabin right next to your 1253. We LOVE aft balconies and the view on all the other ships, but the view is not so great from the SV cabins on the Sports deck.

This is the view that you would have....you can make up your own mind.

EDITED to add this picture of the Century...look at the canopy and notice how far back the SV cabins are situated.

I've already changed our cabin to 1149!

I saw the canvas canopy but your pictures really shows everything in perspective.
