How long have you lived in Florida Sue? I've only been here 4 1/2 years so far. I have friends here their entire life and they have never seen a hurricane season like last year!
6 years. We have heard the same. When Charley came up the coast, it turned into Sanibel, and it would have come right through my house. We are in the SW Cape!! But The eye was five miles out when it bounced back out and went by us. When it turned into Charlotte Harbor, The eye was within 5 miles to Bombero's house in Englewood. There is no question, it went in as a Cat 5.
I believe it! We had Frances and Jeanne hit us. We live about 5 miles from where the eye came on land for them both! We are so grateful we had the eye both times too! Gave us a little reprieve to come out of our saferoom and drink! I fell asleep after that both times, for the most part. We had just taken our shutters down from Frances and had to go to NY for a funeral only to rush back the Friday before Jeanne hit and put them back up! We had also just moved into a brand new house on Aug. 13, when Charley was bugging you guys over there! Thank god for Divosta building them solid! I didn't need for them to test it out though!
Andrea........while you never know for sure.........you should be fine in November........since it is a tender port, you never know about wind conditions, but as far as hurricanes you should be on the down side of the peak season.
We went to Grand Cayman in November last year...we were told that we were the first cruise ship to come back to the island since the hurricanes. We saw tremendous damage....trees broken and bent, roofs and sides of buildings torn off, it was very sad to see. The island was still beautiful inspite of the damage...we stopped at Hell on the way to snorkeling with the stingrays. I felt guilty going to an island that had been devastated by the storm for a vacation. I kept telling myself that we were helping by being there and spending money.

Also, you may not know this, the Caribbean Princess, on a normal 7 day cruise, tendered into Caymen, and the crew used tenders for a full 8 hours, bringing in badly needed supplies to Georgetown. There were passengers on board who complained about the wait, while this was being done.
Oh it was incredible alright....it was incredible that I actually got into the water and swam with them!!! I have to 'fess up that I was among the first to get back into the boat....I got a little freaked out with them swimming around my feet and legs.

Also, you may not know this, the Caribbean Princess, on a normal 7 day cruise, tendered into Caymen, and the crew used tenders for a full 8 hours, bringing in badly needed supplies to Georgetown. There were passengers on board who complained about the wait, while this was being done.
