Yes Angie!! On the RC site!! It says on RC that there are new regs in 2007, and in the yellow box on the side of the statment RC makes it says for travelers and if you hit it the state Dept comes up!! But passports are needed now if you are flying in and staying!! I posted it above!!
PASSPORTS: 1. Passport valid for period of stay required by all except nationals of Canada, the USA and the UK, provided holding proof of nationality (such as a birth certificate or a notarised affidavit of citizenship) and provided return or onward ticket shows that the visitor will leave the Cayman Islands within one month. Photo identification is also required, such as a driving licence.
So, Passports are NOT required for any travel
less than one month to the Cayman Islands
for US, British or Canadian citizens.
Again...just to be clear...I am not trying to scare or be an alarmist about this. I am just passing on what is happening to us. It is quite a coincidence that both our local Post Office and the passport agency in Texas gave me the same information. By the way, the agency's number was given to me by the booking agency. I could see the passport service trying to get me to spend my money with them. When I went to the local Post Office, however, I saw the posting in their book. I know some have said that this is rule refers to land vacations, not cruises, but do you see why I was concerned and opted to follow the cautious option? I hope I'm making myself clear...

This close to your sailing date, I'm sure you were freaked when you thought you needed passports for your cruise. The posting in the book I can't explain other than it could have been a proposed change. Up until about 6-8 months ago the proposed implementation date for passport requirements for travel to the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico was 1-1-2006 and under that proposal you would have been required to have a passport now.
Let me emphasize that the current dates are also proposals and like the last dates, they too could be changed again.
I still think it is so worth it to have that passport. So I won't go on my soapbox to say how easy they are to obtain, or how people of other countries would give their ant farms to get one so easily or so inexpensively.
But if for nothing else, get that passport so you can see the gorgeous mediterranean! Put it on your "must see" list

With the doggie on this. Might as well beat the rush and get them in time for your next trip.
When we were in Hawaii, we needed to show a government issued ID to get back into the ship terminal. I would take out my drivers license for me and passport for my 8-yr-old daughter. I guess a birth certificate could have been used -- I forgot to ask other parents what the policy was. But if I'd run into an anal security guard, there would be no problem with the passport.
