Wedding Cruise in Grand Caymen in December 2011

We are looking to have our wedding ceremony while we are in the Grand Caymen Islands for our 5 day western caribean cruise on the Carnival Destiny. We are looking for a great location close to the port so that we don't miss the ship as it departs at 4pm. We are considering having the ceremony on the beach and the reception onboard the ship afterwards.. We don't want our guests to feel rushed nor do we want them to miss out on a destination. Any suggestions?? We have never been to the Caymen Islands.

    Question

I've been to the Cayman Islands several times. On 2 of those occasions we were unable to tender due to weather conditions. I wouldn't think this would be a good idea, maybe consider San Juan or Barbados as a starting point for your cruise and have the wedding there before your cruise.

I would also worry about not making it to the port. Can you get married on board the ship and then maybe get some photos taken on the beach in Grand Cayman or another port of call if something changed with your itinerary?

I was on RCCL Majesty 11-2002 that stranded 1500 or so passengers on Coco Cay.
The next day there was a wedding scheduled at Key West. Half of the wedding party
was onboard and the other half waiting in Key West. Since we had to remain near Coco Cay
to rescue the passengers that had spent the night on the island, we never made it to Key West.
Messy situation to say the least.

If you are not doing it on the ship you run the risk of not making it to that port. I have had to miss Grand Cayman, Belize, Puerto Rico and Key West. I have also read about people scheduled to get married in Bermuda during hurricane season and the ship heads north to Canada and some are already in Bermuda waiting for them.

How about a ship wedding without big ceremony to follow where your guests come along and so if you have a group they're sort of helping to pay for your honeymoon and maybe a a nice dinner in one of the beautiful islands where if you don't get there you can try for the next island or a specialty restaurant on board.
