    Grand Cayman Islands

    Hi
I'm looking for how to spend a day in Grand Cayman island without the stingray tour.

    Please let me know ?

Perhaps island tour and beach break , just don't know which tour company offers both of this.

    thanks
    Sofia

You don't need to take any excursions in Grand Cayman. You can take public transportation anywhere on the island for $2.50 per person. Then make a stop at 7-Mile Beach and enjoy the rest of your day on a beautiful beach. I recommend Calico Jack's, which is right on one of the public transportation stops.

Let me know if you have any questions, but you really do not need to take any overpriced shore excursions or tours to do what you want to do.

    Grand Cayman Islands

    Hi Pete,
    thanks for advise.

The only concern is that when it is hot I wouldn't like to to wait for any transport so I prefer still something more organized, but of course if there is a cheapter option...would be very good....

What about George Town's Trolley Roger Tour ? I heard that this is one of the cheap ways to see the town? I still would like to have the taste of the town and some island highlights.

We did the stingray tour before in Nassau so this is why I'm not interested in this for the upcoming tour.

    thank you for your advise!

Also I heard the Sea Grape - beach location ...is it just a part of the seven mile beach area?

I would like the beach area if possible with no rocks and nice swimming for my kids, plus the facilities. don't know if they server any famous signature dishes or drinks there...

So if i could combine with the island highlights still that would be great.
    thank you!

Taxis in Grand Cayman are expensive. We've never waited more than a few minutes for any of the public transportation vans, so it's never been a problem.

As for Calico Jack's, it's located on Sea Grape Beach and, as I mentioned, there's a public transportation stop right there, so it's cheap and easy to get to. It's a very nice sandy beach with clear blue water - lovely beach. The food is good, the beer is cold, and there are chairs and umbrellas to rent, or you can just sit at the picnic tables under the awnings.

As for touring the town, it's not very big, so you can walk around and do you own thing without any expensive shore excursions.

We just came back, and I was very disappointed with the Grand Cayman Port. We had to pay $5 a person each way just for a 10 min bus ride to the beach. The beaches were VERY small, and VERY overcrowded. Once at the beach you have to pay $8 for a chair, and the drinks are the same price as on the ship. I found it very dirty, overcrowded, expensive, and a waste of time. This would be a port I would want to do an excursion next time (ex. stingrays, snorkeling) since it is almost as expensive to go to the beach. Just my experience

You must have had a bad experience because in the many many times we've visited Grand Cayman we have never found the beaches dirty or overcrowded. And as for small, I've seen some bigger and some smaller, but the ones in Grand Cayman have always been very nice. As for drinks and chairs, this is normal for most places; some are cheaper and some are more expensive, but it's normal to pay for chairs and the prices for drinks are about the same as other islands. We've only paid $2.50 per person each way on public transportation, so don't know how you got to the beach.

We've been to just about every island in the Caribbean and have always found Grand Cayman to be one of the nicest and cleanest compared to other islands.

But noticing this is your first and only post, it'll be interesting to see if you have any positive feedback of other places.

Pete, why be rude just because I expressed my opinion? We had a terrific time, but yes I was disappointed in Grand Cayman...didn't realize that was a crime...but I see from your other posts you don't like people having an opinion other then your own.

I was excited about joining this forum as this was our first cruise (and no that doesn't mean my opinion doesn't count) and can't wait for our next....

Have you planned another cruise? Where? When?

How were your other ports on this cruise?

    Cruise Planner,
Do the public transportation take you to the turtle farm and Hell? Or to Stringray City?
