Any strong storm is bad for the Cayman Islands. However, they are no strangers to hurricanes. My late mother was born in Cayman Brac, and she's given us many accounts of her experiences during hurricanes there.
Ivan sure pounded them in 2004. When the Carnival Valor took us there in May 2005, you could see the water marks high up on the exterior walls of buildings, where water rose above windows, and the many cars that had to be discarded because water got into their engines. Grand Cayman, Little Cayman are flat. Cayman Brac has the bluffs which are only about 140 ft high.
The weather service is predicting Gustav will be a Cat 4 storm. An eye has been formed now.

Hi Patti, please check your arrival date in Grand Cayman again. 8/24 was last Sunday. Today is 8/31 and you posted this in the wee hours of this morning. Also, which cruise line are you on?
We are posting itinerary changes in each cruise lines forum, you can check there to see what changes your line has implemented.

    Hi!
I guess it was pretty early...late nights and typing do not mix! The date is 9/24..Carnival Destiny...also stopping at Key west 9/22 and Ocho Rios 9/25...
Any info on the status of these ports would be greatly appreciated!!

Your stop in Grand Cayman will be fine. There are Carnival ships calling there later this week under revised itineraries, so late September will not be a problem. TS Hanna is still out there, but I don't think it will strengthen much as the out flow from Gustav is affecting it as shearing is taking place, so Key West and Ocho Rios should be alright by that time also.

You are right that both Gustav and Hanna will be long gone by then.

I hope you are also right that Pattijo's ship will call there as scheduled. But it will still be hurricane season, and the way this season has gone so far, I would say. just watch for any tropical developments that may occur closer to the time of your cruise. (And hope there aren't any)

You're right Sheila, lets hope there are no changes to the Destiny's itinerary later on. As you pointed out, we'll still be in the hurricane season in late September.
