When my wife and I traveled to Belize last May, we went swimming in Shark/Ray Alley, one of their greatest attractions. I had a blast petting the African Sting Rays and I (don't know whether I was brave or stupid) grabbed on to a 12' nurse shark and rode for about 30 seconds. Amazing experience that I hope to do again one day...

I found the best video made by a cruise friend....you can download it and see how cool the stingrays are. Chester's website
I remember swimming with the sting rays on one of our cruises back in 2002. It was fun. I think I was more into it than anyone else with us .

Yeah, I'm from Jersey. That Boston link is referring to the band .

Just so this doesn't get too off topic: We also visited the turtle farm in Grand Caymen.

We thought about visiting the Turtle Farm but after the hurricane we had heard the turtles were in cramped quarters will repair is going on and being a nutty animal lover, I didn't want to take the chance of seeing something that would break my heart. Perhaps next time!!

Oh, yes the rays are truly amazing!

Although, you don't really SWIM with them on that sandbar off Grand Cayman.... just sort of stand among them. It's still really cool, though. I really enjoyed it last month!

They have a swim with the rays in Nassau where you really do swim. The water is mostly over your head, so swim you must! These rays are captive and debarbed. The enclosure is at least the size of a football field, if I remember correctly. There are also far fewer people in the water with them than the mobs on the sandbar in the Caymans. Certain areas are off limits to the humans, so if they're swimming with you, it's cause they wanna be.

Well, now I can't wait for September to swim with them again!
