Seven Mile Beach

OK - Spill the beans, CLFers!

We know lots of you have visited Grand Cayman's Seven Mile Beach.

We want all the skinny.

What's the BEST OF?
What's the WORST OF?
Is there better snorkeling at one part of Seven Mile Beach?
Where is the best food?
Where's the cheapest food?
Are there vendors there? If so, where are they the least / most agressive?
What about rentals?
Can we walk there from the ship?
Are there sand fleas?
What's the best beach bar near the beach?

We want to know anything and everything you can tell us about the famous Seven Mile Beach, and this is the place to do it!

Best snorkeling is at the far end at Cemetery Beach.

There is no cheap food or anything else on Grand Cayman.

Some vendors but you need to approach their stands. Nobody walking along trying to sell you anything.

What kind of rentals?

The beginning of 7 Mile Beach is about 2 miles from the tender docks.

I've only tried a couple of beach bars there, but I liked Calico Jack's at Sea Grape.

Way too many pics in Grand Cayman including a number from a limited subsection of 7 mile beach: Grand Cayman Sea Grape etc, Mar 2005

Thanks, Zy!

Awesome!

I was gonna ask for pics next, but you antaicipated my move. You are some chess player!

Rentals - like beach chairs, umbrellas, mats, snorkel gear, jet skis, kayaks, whatever. What can you tell us about that?

The beaches themselves are public so you could just bring your beach towel and plop down on it.

One of the place we really enjoy is Calico Jack's. It's towards the north end of 7 Mile Beach right next to Red Sail Sports and has tents over tables so you can get out of the sun to enjoy beverages and/or food. (They have the best prices for beer that we've found on the beach.) The beach is lovely, the water is warm, and the area is very nice. Not very crowded and it's right on the public transit stop. Take public transportation, much cheaper than a taxi - $2.50 per person anywhere on the island you want to go. You can get the public transportation at the library - ask anyone where it is - about 3 blocks from the pier where you get off the tenders.

p.s. If you do try Cemetery Beach there is a bus stop there, but know that there are no facilities at the beach, so bring whatever you need.

Thanks so much, Zyd!!! Great informantion and wonderful pictures!

Was there any problem whatsoever finding a taxi to take you back to the ship? (In the pictures I saw one with the Taxi Parking sign but I've seen those signs when there were few taxis available. )
