Haven't eaten here, but got this from Frommers, which doesn't take the business of recommending places lightly...
Have any of our CLFers eaten there? If so, please let us hear from you!
Eric Ripert, owner of New York's swank le Bernardin, has invaded the Caymans, opening the island's chic new dining spot, Blue, at the new Ritz-Carlton, on West Bay Rd. (tel. 345/943-9000). No endangered fish are served here, so the menu adheres to strict eco-standards. But hand-caught local lobster does arrive, and it's served in imaginative ways such as in a coconut and ginger soup with mango and avocado. A tasting menu -- the best on the island -- is changed monthly.
I have only been there once since the hurricane did so much damage to the island a couple of years ago. A lot has changed with the reconstruction. They now have a Hard Rock Cafe and (I think) a Senior Frogs! The main street by the tender pier is beginning to look like the Caribbean islands that you equate with partying.
There is a place that the locals go to that is a grocery store (market) , about a block from the main drag, that has a cafeteria style buffet that you can buy prepared items by the pound! It is very good and when I recall the name I'll post it! This is the way to get the flavor of the island rather than just another chain restaurant.
All the food and drink is expensive there since they have no agriculture to speak of, and need to import most of their food products.
We have eaten at "Breezes" on two trips to the Caymans. The first time was by accident and the second time on purpose. It's right across the street from the tender area. Marvelous coconut shrimp, great fruity drinks. Mango salads. If and when I go back, it will be on purpose again that I eat there. If I remember correctly, it was about $70 for 3 of us last time and we all had a foo-foo drink too.
If you go, try to get the upstairs seating outside on their balcony. Lovely view.

Miss Char, I don't rightly recall what I had to drink. I think it was pink though

OK, I have tried to find the name of the grocery store that has the by the pound buffet. All I can remember is that it was across from the courthouse...on a corner. What comes to mind is the Corner Market or Grocer. When you get off the tender turn left and go down a couple of blocks then turn right. It should be a block or 2 down.
Hey, that's the way they would direct you!
Another good local (meaning that's where the locals shop) place that also has the by the pound prepared food, is Kirks Grocery & Pharmacy out toward 7 Mile Beach. You would need a car for that one.
Wish I could be more specific, but now that you know that that kind of place exists, ask a local!
One reason things seem more expensive is that the USD is not worth as much as is the KYD. ... $1 USD is only .833 KYD.

We like to go to Seven Mile Beach and enjoy a relaxing day on a beautiful beach. So, we take public transportation ($2.50 per person each way - taxis are alot more) out to Calico Jack's where they have good food and cold beer. In fact, we found their prices for beer better than just about everywhere else we've been to.
There's also a restaurant near the downtown area that a friend of mine who lives there recommended to us and it was very good. It's on the water, but I can't remember the name (I suffer from CRS!). As you get off the tenders, make a right and follow the water around for about two blocks. There's a scuba diving store next to it.

Char-
At any other port I'd say those directions are crazy but after numerous stops in GC, they make perfect sense to me. We will venture over there before getting a taxi out to 7 Mile Beach.
