Carnival Victory to Drop Dominica off Itineraries

Carnival Cruise Lines will eliminate the Carnival Victory's call in Dominica on its year-round, seven-day cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Effective with its Nov. 21 cruise, the ship will no longer stop in Dominica, and will instead spend that day at sea. It will continue to call in the five other scheduled ports on its itinerary, St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten.

It's a cost-benefit analysis matter. They did some regression testing, realized they were burning a ton of fuel, looked at customer satisfaction surveys from Dominica and decided to axe the stop.

Apparently, the fuel savings for the fleet are immense as a result of this small change.

Wow!!!! It's one thing if the customer satisfaction surveys are not favorable to Dominica, but I don't get how is this saving fuel when the ship spends the day at sea cruising? Are you telling me that the ship burns more fuel docked than at sea?

Interesting question, though I can envision it could go either way or hardly make a difference depending on route and speeds. Were they able to change the route sequence?
