Triumph not coming to New Orleans after all???

Posts are appearing from folks who were booked on the Triumph out of New Orleans for as late as October 2007. They are saying that their cruises have been cancelled.

Seems Carnival is leaving the Triumph in Miami. I just tried to book a Sept 2, 2007 on the Carnival website and it would not process.

We were so looking forward to the Triumph. Adding another ship and a 7 day choice would have been a real shot in the arm for New Orleans. (especially since they just finished the new cruise terminal.)

If this is indeed true...I am sad....

    IMPORTANT ITINERARY NOTICE
CARNIVAL TRIUMPH TO STAY IN MIAMI
    February 14, 2007
    Dear Carnival Guest
We have received tremendous response to the Carnival Triumph’s new Exotic Eastern Caribbean itinerary from Miami. In addition, there are some lingering misperceptions by vacationers about the recovery of New Orleans’ tourism infrastructure, which has required us to re-evaluate our timeline for adding a second ship to that port. We are committed to New Orleans and will continue our efforts to build consumer interest in New Orleans cruising. In the meantime, the timing is not right to place a second ship there.
The Carnival Triumph will now remain in Miami offering 7 Day Exotic Eastern Caribbean cruises, starting Saturday, August 25, 2007 through April 26, 2008. The scheduled 7 day New Orleans cruises will be cancelled.
We sincerely apologize for this itinerary change. However, we have a wide variety of other great Carnival cruise options available for you. In addition, we will provide deposited guests with the following special re-booking incentives:
Option I: Rebook on a 4 or 5 day Fantasy cruise from New Orleans and receive a $50 per stateroom onboard credit.
Option 2: Rebook on a 7 day Carnival Triumph or Carnival Victory cruise from Miami and receive a $200 per stateroom onboard credit.
Option 3: Rebook on a 7 day Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Legend or Carnival Valor cruise and receive a $100 per stateroom onboard credit
We request that you contact us at your earliest opportunity. We can then assist you in finding another great Carnival cruise vacation.
    Sincerely,
    Vicki L Freed, CTC

That is too bad....I feel bad for the people that had their cruises cancelled.

The on board credit of $200 isn't bad, but I guess that will still not alleviate the cost to get to Miami.

Many people from this part of the country simply drive to NOLA. So, they will have to add an airfare they did not plan on buying......

    Sad....

The itinerary from Miami (instead of New Orleans) for the Triumph looks like it will be:

Miami, FL ; Half Moon Cay, Bahamas ; St. Thomas, USVI ; San Juan, Puerto Rico ; Grand Turk ; Miami, FL

And some really good starting prices, too.

This, for the Carnival website - results from a search for Triumph sailings in September.

We were also trying to decide whether to book it for September, December or January.

Now I feel guilty. If we had all booked....maybe the ourcome would have been different. Of course it would not have ....but I have read so many folks who were "thinking about booking" on so many boards....but (like us) never did.
