I have been in constant touch with Carnival, but no one has any definitive information to give me. As you can imagine, my phone has been ringing off the hook since yesterday. I'll let everyone know when/if I hear anything.
I feel for you .. that has got to be one of the worst feelings in the world...

the up side.. is Carnival appears to be making some headway in resolution I really don't think THEY know yet .. HOW or IF your group will be affected... if they can't correct the problem in a timely fashion it does sound as if they are overly compensating displaced inconveniencing travelers.. Best of luck..

Thanks Joey, for your kind words. As a TA, you can truely appreciate the turmoil I am going through right now. I am at a loss for words to express who helpless I feel right now.

I don't want the voyage cancelled, but I don't want to wait until Saturday morning to find out we're not going (we're supposed to leave MCO at 7:30 AM on Saturday to fly to LAX). Since the ship is not expected into Ensenada until mid day on Wednesday, I don't expect Carnival will make a decision before then. I'm sure they will want their ground crew to see the damage and make an assessment, before they make a decision.

As I said earlier, as soon as I hear something, which I would hope would be sooner then the general public, I will post it.

And i bet neither does Carnival for that matter (hang in there Beverly)
I fear much like cruising during Hurricane season.. the powers that be will hold off any final making decision until the last possible moment..

That being said I would THINK they should have a decision that can be passed on to the industry by Thursday afternoon .... its either going to be an easy fix or a dry-dock situation...

Yeah, that's what I figured. Once the ship gets back to Ensenada on Wednesday, Carnival's ground crew will be able to asses the situation and make a decision on how long repairs will take. I'm hoping that the worst that happens is that it is an abbreviated 5/6 night voyage.

I, too, have a group going out on the Splendor, but not until 11/17, so I'm obviously watching this with great interest and concern.

Nothing like putting people's plans on hold waiting for more information to see if they're going or not.

I have no bookings on Splendor for a few months.
IMHO, Splendor will be out of revenue service from a minimum
of 4 weeks up to 3 months or more.
If it requires dry dock the nearest place would be in SF or Esquimalt(Victoria, BC).

As always, you gotta love the press!!

Tonight on the ABC World New Tonight they were reporting the situation with the Splendor. At the end of the story, they reported that everyone onboard would be given 100% refund plus a free cruise. The next shot showed them talking to some lady sitting at an outdoor cafe and her comments to that was, "No way! It's like getting food poisoning at a restaurant - you never want to go back there again."

Obviously, the woman is an idiot!

But what irritated me the most is that instead of ending the story on a positive note, they had to make sure that they ended with a negative twist. What purpose does it serve to talk to someone on the street who has probably never been on a cruise! Not once did they mention that there were no injuries and everyone was fine.

Then on NBC Nightly News, they interviewed some guy who's parents were on the ship and he said he was worried because he knew his mom was worried because she couldn't swim!

    Oh, please!

Yes, it's a very trying situation, but stuff happens - people just need handle it and get on with it. But the way they handle it speaks volumes about their character and their ability to deal with adversity. So the press can report how well people handle the situation, but don't talk to people who aren't there, have no idea what's going on, have a negative attitude about everything, or known nothing about cruising.

Okay, enough of my rant for the day.

I heard a report on the night news that the crew has the toilets working and that is a very good thing There is a Coast guard cutter that is along side the Splendor and will follow her in to be fixed. There is also a ship and helicopters bringing in water & food to the ship including spam. They are waiting for the tugs to start towing her back.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
