Exclamation Halloween on the Carnival Splendor 10-30-11

I will be on this cruise with three of my friends. Anyone up for some “Ghoulish Fun” on Halloween?

The Splendor will be in Puerto Vallarta on November 2nd from 11 am to 11 pm (local time) – this will give us plenty of time to enjoy the "dia de los muertos" celebrations.

    Unhappy I have canceled this cruise because . . . .

    Carnival radically changed the itinerary.

They sent an e-mail to my TA to tell us.

I am looking for new cruise line.

That's too bad Tom! I hope you find a replacement cruise soon.

    Thanks Char

My next cruise will be on any cruise line BUT Carnival. Let me explain . . .

I booked this cruise because it was going to be in PV on November 2nd and we would be there for 12 hours. That is the day the most of the indigenous people of Mexico celebrate "dia de los muertos" (or day of the dead).

When Carnival canceled Mazatlan (which is their right) they added another day in Cabo. This pushed our visit to PV back another day and that meant we would not arrive in PV until November 3rd - the day after "the dia la los muertos" celebrations.

When this was brought to the attention of Carnival - their response was basically, “we did not cancel PV - so what was the problem". Since I book this cruise under the “Early Saver Program”, if I cancel, Carnival will keep $50 of my deposit and give me a credit for the balance of my deposit on a future cruise on Carnival – no thanks!!

I feel when you book a cruise specifically to be in a port at a very significant date - and the cruise lines significantly changes the itinerary (in this canceling Mazatlan and arriving in PV a day later and adding another boring day in Cabo), you should be able to cancel without penalty - but Carnival does not see it that way.

Carnival position is similar to you booking a hotel, near Times Square in NY, on December 31st and the hotel changes your reservation to the January 1st. The reason they changed the date was for your safety, as there would be hundred of thousands of people in Time Square on New Years Eve.

I am not sure where I will cruise next, but it will definitely not be on any Carnival Corp ship. To say the least, I am very disappointed on Carnival handled this!!

Well, I don't blame you, Tom! It seems to me they are punishing you for booking early by charging you $50 and keeping the rest of your deposit money for a future cruise instead of refunding it to you.
I would not book under those conditions.

And, yes...I would think that changing the dates would be a valid reason for them to refund your money. Bummer!
