If I remember correctly they will dredge the river to either 45 or 48 feet. This is still shallow for some of the larger cargo and crude vessels to travel fully loaded. I'm all for the dredging, but the main issue is what to due with the spoils/dredge material. This is one reason why they are not going deeper. No one in NJ or Pa wants this stuff in a landfill in their area. When they finish, they'll probably have to dredge another ten feet in a few years just to keep up with the other east coast ports. It's all political and somebodies family and friends are going to get paid big time twice! I would love any ship large or small going out of Philly. I just don't want Bermuda, Bahamas, Key West or some other east coast city to be the main stop on the intinerary. I have seen a few cruises online and this was the case. That's why I prefer to leave out of Florida. Being in school fulltime and on a budget, leaving out of Florida is still cheaper with my military rate than leaving out of NY City by a few hundred dollars. This is even counting airfarr, hotel and a car/port transfers . More money to spend on shore excursions, onboard spending and souvenirs!
