Red face Carnival -Destiny Questions?

Hi Folks,

I'm a newbie to the group and going on my first cruise this September aboard Carnival Cruise Line, Destiny to celebrate my Honeymoon. I'm going on a Southern Caribbean 7 night stay.

Has anyone here done this trip on this cruise line?

Any advice? Good and Bad?

I've heard nightmare stories about taking private tours at stop over islands. Is it better to go with the cruise line for city tours and excursions? when do you book the trips? Day of arrival or prior to leaving?

Not sure what to expect on my trip and hoping my self and my husband (by then) will have a fantastic time.

I hope someone can answer my questions.

Sassy Girl

My first cruise was with the Destiny and i LOVED IT.
For your first cruise I suggest booking with the cruise line so if there is a problem(late return) the ship will wait. If you book independently and are late the ship will not wait.
You can book the excursions on the Carnival website before your cruise.
Book early as some of the popular trips fill up.
You should have a great time

My first cruise was also on the Destiny from San Juan in 2004. It's very well maintained and just had a major refurbishment Oct thru Nov 2005. You will love this ship and the itinerary, San Juan, St Thomas, Dominica, Barbados and Aruba, with two sea days.
We purchased our shore excursions on board the ship, using the TV remote. You can also purchase them before you sail on the internet from Carnivals website.
You'll see "Carnival Capers" the cruiselines news letter highlighting activities on board the ship each day. The shows in the Palladium Lounge at night are great, as is the food in the Dining Room. I didn't have any complaints about the vessel.
You'll find out that you can't walk bow to stern on decks 3 and 4, as the dining room fore utilises these two decks. Lots of nightly Calypso and Reggae music on the Lido Deck.
Have fun on the Destiny.

Thanks for the advice

Thank you babybluecruiser and MD11F for your advice.

I'm going to go check out the website and see if I can book some trips. I'm so excited about my first cruise and abit scared at the same time. I get motion sickness and I can't swim for the life of me. Cruising was my brilliant fiance's idea
Hopefully I will do ok and enjoy my honeymoon and cruise ship and all the ports.

Sassy girl, the Destiny is equipped with stabilizers, so you won't get any side to side motion. What you will feel if there are strong winds is the riding of the waves coming headon at the front of the ship. I'd suggest you go to your pharmacist and ask him/her to recommend something to prevent motion sickness.
Don't worry about not being able to swim, you'll be helped if need be. Just enjoy your honeymoon cruise, cruising is a fantastic way to start married life, you wouldn't want to leave the ship when the cruise is over.
