Well I never thought of at sea days as time to kill. You have to find the time before you can kill it.

My family took a boat out to Catalina Island this past weekend - I got a bit nauscious but survived the 45 minute trip. My wife wasn't too much into the "enjoy the sun and the ocean scenary" and we didn't have time to take the many tours that were available (just a day trip). Makes me wonder if she'll even like being a boat all day when there is no port call (planning to take the 4-day Catalina\Encenada trip out of Long Beach) Is there much to do when you are traveling all day? I guess the answer is, depends on what you want to do but I guess we are not into the sunbathing, stare off into the wide-blue with a drink in our hand thing. Plus, there's the prospect of having our 2 year old around (unless the Kids Camp has activities throughout the day). I guess our expecations would be swimming, outdoor fun things like rock-climbing, a couple of "shows" (I can't even imagine having a theater on a ship) ....after that...seems like there is a lot of time to kill.

Not to worry because there is so much to do during a sea day on the ship. There are trivia contests, funny pool games to watch, ice carving demos by the pool, the casino, High Tea, and lots of other activities. At night, there is always a floor show to watch. It will be either the Carnival dancers and singers, a magician, or a comedian.

Camp Carnival should be open all day long, so you should be able to spend some time alone with your wife.

The rock climbing walls are only on Royal Caribbean ships so unfortunately that won't be an option. There are also 2 FREE movies to watch on your TV in your cabin daily.

If you are the type of person who always has to be doing something, get involved in everything. If not, take some time to relax and just enjoy being waited on like royalty.

As for feeling nauseous, buy some Ginger Pills and start taking them 2 days before you go and the whole time you are on the ship. It works just as good as the medications you can buy but it doesn't make you drowsy.

If you have any other questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.

Well, getting close to selling my wife the idea of taking the family on a cruise next year on the Paradise. I was planning to try the 4-day trip out of Long Beach --> Catalina --> Ensenada in Feb 2009. My question (actually, the wife's question) was whether anyone had experiences taking a young toddler out on tours in Mexico? I think my wife would really want to explore Ensenada but is concerned about how our 3-year old son would do. Plus, would we need to bring a car-seat with us if we took a tour? I noticed that the price was noticably cheaper in Feb - does this mean that the weather is typically bad during that time? Our family has been to Catalina before but didn't seem like our thing since we couldn't do the "cool" stuff like kayaking, snorkeling, etc with our 2-year old.
    thx,
    Mike C.
