    Carnival Freedom (New for 2007)

Carnival Freedom is the name selected by Carnival Cruise Lines for its new 110,000-ton cruise ship scheduled to enter service in spring 2007.

To be built at a cost of $500 million at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri, Italy, the new 2,974-passenger “Fun Ship” will be the fifth in Carnival’s highly successful Conquest-class, which also includes Carnival Conquest and Carnival Glory currently in service, Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty, set to debut July 20, 2005.

The itinerary for the Carnival Freedom will be announced at a later date.

The new Carnival Freedom will encompass 13 passenger decks housing 22 lounges and bars, a 13,300-square-foot health club, a 2,400-square-foot children’s play room, a 4,200-square-foot teen club/game room, four swimming pools, a 214-foot-long water slide, and four restaurants, including an upscale reservations-only supper club.

    Other features will include
a nine-deck-high atrium, a full gambling casino, a duty-free shopping mall and a comprehensive golf program. Of the ship’s 1,487 staterooms, 60 percent will offer either an ocean view or a balcony.

When the 110,000gt Carnival Freedom debuts in Europe in 2007, the interior design will take passengers on a journey through remarkable decades. Architect Joe Farcus said he tried to use the function of each room to reflect the central design idea. When passengers step into Freedom’s Millennium atrium, they will be transported into 2010. Futuristic elements include cylindrical forms painted in iridescent lacquers that take on red or gold tones, curved railings in blue glass, and glass and copper chandeliers with columns and beams accented with iridescent glass tiles.

Named after Queen Victoria, the Victoriana show lounge recalls the 1880s with a design that evokes theaters in London’s West End with ornate moldings, fancy marble and gold leaf. The centerpiece is a mural-decorated dome with a crystal chandelier.

The 1990s were all about style, as reflected in the two main restaurants, the Chic and Posh Dining Rooms. The walls feature polished marbles and a wood veneer laminated in a python skin pattern. The mood of each room can be changed dramatically by special lighting strips.

Recalling Louis XIV, the Sun King Supper Club represents the glory days of the 18th century. A statue of Louis as the Sun King greets diners as they enter and a period chandelier hangs in the skylight dome.

Other rooms higlight the 1950s (Player’s Sports Bar), the 1970s (Studio 70 dance club) and the 1890s (Bar Nouveau, the wine club), among others.

Under construction at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, Carnival Freedom is scheduled to enter service with 12-day Mediterranean cruises — including the line’s first visit to the Greek Isles and Turkey — beginning March 14, 2007.

Jane is correct. I'd love to be on it but I cannot afford a Mediterranean cruise at this time and that is all she is going to be doing for awhile.

    Carnival Freedom almost complete

This sailing is pretty filled up and we are now working on getting transfers for people from the airport to ahotel for 2 pre-nights in Rome... also including a half-day tour of Vatican City the day before embarkation. For several people traveling together and staying at thesame hotel, we are scheduling private mini-vans as transfers. Rome to the port may be an hour and a half by car, so a little more room will be nice in the vehicle. Everyone is looking forward to a superb cruise and especially this bran new ship!

My wife, kids and I are booked on this ship for November 17th 2007. This is over Thanksgiving. I think this is the first US sailing. When we booked there tremendous rates for this sailing. This will be our first Carnival cruise. If anyone does go on her before us, please gives some info.
