Thread: Carnival Fantasy not returning to Costa Maya until May, 2009

I wonder why so long. I know estimates of recovery are looking at a year. But this is closer to 2 years....what gives???

They are saying it will take 12 months to rebuild the pier to accept 2 ships and won't be until 2009 before it can again take 3 ships.

Maybe Carnival is figuring on 12 months Mexican time or maybe it is politics as usual similar to what Carnival faced in Cozumel after Wilma.

Any idea when they are going to dock the Fantasy for the "Evolutions of Fun" re-fitting? Maybe this figures into their delay of returning so late.

I found this info on the Carnival site but it doesn't say if it is completely done. But it does use the word "received" and not "receiving".

My understanding is that they did the stateroom and interior changes in 2005, but haven't done the exterior (Waterworks/Resort style pools) yet. The sight says these have only been done on the Imagination and the Inspiration. Rest are planned to be complete by 2009, which may explain the Fantasy's delay in returning to Costa Maya so far after the planned rebuilding. But I'm making a lot of assumptions.

I was really looking forward to Costa Maya on our cruise for NYE. Maybe one day.

Fantasy is scheduled for a makeover next fall, but I don't think any Carnival ships are scheduled to return to Costa Maya until May 2009. Doesn't mean they won't come back early, I just think Carnival is playing it safe.
