Fantasy hit by barge in Mississippi River

Carnivals Fantasy was reportedly hit by a barge while waiting to dock in New Orleans this morning. It has a 30 foot gash in it's hull. It appears that it will not be sailing today as planned.

The Fantasy sustained some damage this morning when the ship was struck by a commercial vessel. A tow operator with six barges lost control and that vessel collided with the Fantasy as we were returning to New Orleans from the previous cruise. After the collision, we proceeded to safely dock the ship at the cruise terminal in New Orleans.

Unfortunately, we will now be forced to cancel this cruise. After further evaluation, the repairs will take several days to complete.

Guests will be welcome to stay aboard this evening and all guests will debark tomorrow (Sunday) morning. In addition, guests will also have the option to debark tonight and return home.

We sincerely apologize for this situation and the disruption to the vacation plans of our guests. We hope that we will have the opportunity to have them sail with us aboard another Carnival cruise in the near future.

Talk about screwing up people's vacation fun, especially if there were first time cruisers.

Our local TV stations showed the Fantasy with her big gash.

There is a local couple who are trying to get back home. They are staying on the ship -- no hotel rooms -- no flights out til Monday -- they are hoping to get a train home today.

A lot of vacations have been ruined -- feel so sorry for everyone. But thankfully no one was injured.
