September 23, 2005 PORT CANAVERAL, FL—September 23, 2005—Beginning in March 2006, Carnival Cruise Lines will offer four- and five-day itineraries with a third ship at Port Canaveral. The expansion will provide cruisers from Port Canaveral with the new option of a five-day cruise. Current offerings are from a half-day to seven days.
Carnival will offer the new year-round program from Port Canaveral aboard the Sensation from March 23 through October 19, 2006. The program will continue aboard the Elation starting October 23, 2006. Both ships carry 2,052 passengers.
“The expansion of Carnival’s partnership with Port Canaveral is another indication of the importance of Port Canaveral as a homeport in addition to our emergence as a growing port of call destination,” says Port Authority CEO Stan Payne. “We are pleased that Carnival recognizes our efforts to provide world-class service to the cruise lines, businesses, passengers and visitors to Port Canaveral.”
Carnival’s Glory and Fantasy also sail year-round from Port Canaveral.
“This increase inthe number of Carnival ships calling at Port Canaveral will mean more economic benefits for Brevard and all of Central Florida,” says Ray Sharkey, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Canaveral Port Authority. “The benefits derive through activities such as crew spending, area hotel stays, and businesses that service the cruise lines.”
Four-day cruises will call at Nassau and either Freeport or Half Moon Cay. Five-day cruises will call at Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Nassau throughout 2006 and from May to September 2007. From January to April 2007 and from October to December 2007, the five-day itinerary will feature Key West and Cozumel.
