Thumbs down Evening Entertainment on Carnival

Can someone tell me why Carnival doesn't have professional entertainement every night onboard? I was on the Ecstasy in December and one night there was only the passenger show and another night there was a juggler only at 10 PM. Kinda late for families. I cruise partly for the wonderful entertainment. I love the Carnival Dancers & singers. These shows are terrific. I don't expect them every night but something else should be planned. I was very disappointed. Now I hear that the Dream does the same thing. Big disappointment for me. I am sailing on the Dream next Month.

The Ecstasy is a smaller older ship doing shorter cruises. Those ships simply don't get the first-rate entertainment - that's reserved for the newer bigger ships. You'll notice the difference when you get on the Dream. But you won't see the professional entertainment every night on any ship. They normally only perform two sometimes three nights on a 7-night cruise. Some have more, some less, depending on the cruise line, the ship, and the length of the cruise.

You should also consider the performers in the smaller venues, not only the big main theater shows. Some of these performers are excellent in their own right and a delight to listen to. I for one, personally like the intimacy of the lounges and the bars. There the performers will actually take requests and give you exactly what you want.

Oh, so true! When we were on the Explorer of the Seas, there was a fantastic guitarist in the Crown & Kettle, one of my favorite little bars. We enjoyed him every night.

But I do think RCCL has better performers overall than Carnival. Then again, one of the funniest comedians we ever saw was on a Carnival cruise - kept us in tears we were laughing so hard.

Few things give you a better feel that walking down the ship, stopping in a lounge because you hear something interesting, and just standing there for a minute while the group plays. Then, two hours later, you are wondering to yourself why you never took a seat.....

Hi, Actually we have gone to the Comedy Club performances both family friendly and adults only. The main difference between the two is really only 4-letter words. The comedians were very funny. Some involve the audience so don't sit up front unless you want to be party of the show. For one particular comedian, even sitting in the back didn't prevent him from using you in the show. All in good fun though. Just a word of warning...

It is usually a battle between my wife and I as to which of us can get the other person "volunteered". On one cruise she raised my hand and when the juggler looked in our direction I quickly lowered mine leaving hers in the air. Guess who got to go on stage......

We love catching a piano player who interacts with the crowd, always so much fun, usually different. One thing we are looking forward too. The Oasis has the same shows two years later - not that we are going to them - just stinks.

That is one of the important things about shipboard entertainment. They really need to keep changing the shows, otherwise repeat cruisers will find everything stale.

Our last cruise was very interesting. The ship had just brought on a new set of entertainers and two of the performances were totally new.
