First, a Warm Welcome to CLF. This is what we do here, help and give advice, and like cruising, we have fun.
I did this cruise on the Destiny in May 2004, and it's a great itinerary.
San Juan - Most people do the City Tour and Barcadi House Tour. We did this and I'll highly recommend it. If you arrive in P. Rico 2 days before your cruise as we did, The El Yunque Rainforest excursion is recommended. After you leave the Rainforest, you are taken to a beach for about 2 1/2 hours depending on weather.
St.Thomas - we did Paradise Point, a self guided tour, whose entrance is obliquely across from the pier, then we had time to return to the ship, join the others and head to Megans Bay. We enjoyed this excursion. On the way to Megans Bay, there's a nice treat but I'l not say what it is. There are other nice excursions to choose from.
Dominica - This is the poorest country you'll visit. We did the Rainforest Tour where you drive through the capital, Roseau and major sites are pointed out. The tour then proceeds to the Rainforest. Note: Dominica is NOT the Dominican Republic.
Barbados - Don't remember the tour we did because I did not enjoy much of it. We did drive through Bridgetown. Many excursions to choose from. If you like the beach, Barbados has very nice beaches. currency is $2 Barbadian to $1 US. Carnival has changed the departure time from 10 PM then to 6 PM today.
Aruba - I really loved this port. I refer to Aruba as Carnival leaving the best for last. It's also the longest time you'll spend in any of the ports of call. Again the departure time has been changed from 11 PM to 10 PM. I'll let you have your choice of excursions here as I think you will enjoy any of them. We went to the Natural Bridge, Rock Formations, The California Lighthouse, and a drove past the beaches (Palm Beach and another whose name escapes me) and resorts. You then have a choice of being dropped off downtown(which is across from the pier), or at the ship. If you like, there was a Sunset Cocktail Cruise which we enjoyed, (didn't drink much, just 2).
Here's what I suggest if you have doubts, there's a meeting in the Palladium Lounge with the cruise director the day you board, if you miss it you can see it on the ships TV in your cabin. He/she will tell you all the highlights of every shore excursion offered in each port of call, which will help you decide. Also, the Destiny underwent a multi-million refurbishment last year (2005) and some new features were added to the ship, so:
Happy Cruising
