    CPAP users fyi...........

I contacted Carnival Special needs today regarding distilled water for hubby's cpap machine on our upcoming Spirit cruise. I was told that distilled water is available from our room steward at $4.00 a gallon. And that we should bring our own extension cord. I was a little surprised, as we have never been charged before on other cruise lines. Dh only ever uses maybe a cup of distilled water, but it only comes in gallon jugs.

RCCL provides both distilled water and the extension cord no charge. NCL suggests you bring both. HAL provides the cord. From what I have seen there seems to be a varity of ways the lines deal with this request. It all appears to hinge on each lines interpretation of how they have to deal with ADA laws/rules

Jen .... Are you able to find distilled water at home in less than the 1 gal. size? Just wondering because I need it for my Neti-Pot (does not cruise with me) and the smallest I can find is a gallon jug.

No I haven't found it in anything smaller Lulu.

We are flying for our next cruise, and there seems to be conflicting reports on flyertalk as to whether they will let you thru airport security with distilled water in your own smaller container or not. Some airports will test the water and some airports will just dump it.

There is also talk that just using the ships water is okay for the short term if you don't use the heater in the cpap. So we may just do that. Or I was thinking of using one of those rumrunner flasks and packing it in the luggage.

I don't mind paying the $4 but it just seems silly, when you only need a cup or two to have to get a whole gallon then they dump the rest after the cruise.

Jen, guess you could try to take some and if they dump it ... just buy it on the ship? Could you possibly use some of the gallong jug (poured into a smaller water bottle) to take with you when doing excursions in ports?

The cpap is just for night time use, dh has sleep apnea and snores terribly! The cpap is a breathing machine to use while sleeping.

Jen, I ment that you use some on the distilled water to DRINK on shore excursions. Don't know about you, but we often take a small bottle of water with us for port stops.

Ah, I didn't think of that! duh! lol! I bring my small britta filter and refillable bottles for drinking water. I guess we could use the Britta water in the cpap too!

I have used ships water in mine when the distilled was not available without a problem though the machines maker and the purists frown on it highly. The company I got mine from told me it would be okay and I have seen no problems as a result. If you put distilled water in your own container and secured it in your check bag there should be no real problem after all they tell you to put your liquor in there when flying.

My Wife usus a CPAP machine. All ocean cruise lines provided distilled water & extension cord (we usually bring our own cord). I have a standard letter I fax to the lines requesting the water. One of the lines, don't remember which (not Carnival) said there may be a charge for the water, but was never charged. I would request the water and if have to pay the few $ do so, small charge compared to price of cruise.

Just back from a Viking China cruise and they told me point blake there will not be any distilled water. We use the ships bottled water with no problems for the 2 weeks.
