Does it bother you to be called by your first name by domestics on Carnival?

Please understand, we're so not use to being called by our first names by service workers and domestic help ... and, honestly, find it offensive. Do any of the rest of you?

Carnival is the ONLY cruise line we know that takes this sort of liberty .....

It never crossed my mind to be offended, as I consider everyone my equal. I dont think they have to address me as if we were not equal. Just because they are employed by the ship, they are still just people with a job.

I cant even remember how I was addressed to be honest .. and I just got off Carnival last month.

Blame me on this if you wish!

It is a matter of respect! Yes, I'm offended when someone younger than my children who is cleaning my room decides to call me my first name!

I can't remember either how it was handled on the last Carnival cruise. But for those who are mostly of foreign descent, I'm just amazed at how many names they do remember, then have to start anew on the next cruise! At least they are taught to address passengers, even if it is "Good Evening, Ms. Sandie".

Our steward didn't even call us by our last names...he never stopped by our room. I think I would be a little bothered too.

Now that I think about it, I think they called me Mizz jane, which was ok to me.

How right you are! The Mr and Ms (thing) in front of a first name is perfectly acceptable.

This was done by all on Carnival EXCEPT our room steward and assistant room steward. Still find this odd.

The only people who called me by first names were the cruise directors staff, the stewards who we rarely saw just said good morning without the names. It wouldn't bother me at all if they knew and used my first name.

Hmmm, I don't really remember. Our last name is pretty hard to pronounce (most people get it wrong, but I don't bother correcting anyone unless they ask) so I wouldn't mind if I was called Miz Patty.

What's funny is that sometimes my daughter's drama teacher will refer to me in front of the kids by my first name and sometimes by Mrs. ------. I don't mind (in fact it was funny when some of the drama kids tried to friend me on FB -- one of them said so they could access the photos I took, but I told her I try to put them on the group page). That was just after that same girl was talking too much, and Mrs. A told her to go sit over by Patty. And she knew who she was talking about.

Well LuLu, I thought everyone in the US called people by their first name. When I left T'dad, people addressed you as Mr, Miss, or Mrs followed by your last name. Things are very Americanized there now, so I'm not sure if that is still the case. I do not recall if the Cabin Stewards on Carnival called us by our first names, but it would not bother me if they did.
