Thread: Carnival plans to sends Ecstasy to Port Canaveral

Industry giant Carnival plans to send a third ship to Port Canaveral, Fla., near Orlando, as early as this November, according to a report today by USA TODAY sister paper Florida Today.

The news outlet cites Port Canaveral port officials today as saying the Miami-based line plans to move the 2,052-passenger Ecstasy to the port to join the 2,052-passenger Carnival Sensation and 3,646-passenger Carnival Dream.

The Ecstasy currently sails out of Galveston, Texas, but had been scheduled to move to New Orleans in September as part of a larger shuffle of Carnival ships.

A spokesperson for Carnival would not confirm the move.

"We have not made any recent announcements regarding deployment changes and are not in a position to offer any further comment," Carnival spokeswoman Jennifer De la Cruz tells USA TODAY.

Well, my thought is to wait till Carnival confirms it.
Carnival doesn't seem to have anything to say at this time.

Curtis, Carnival isn't confirming anything at this point. That was the same position Princess had before they confirmed the removal of the SkyWalker's Club Nightclub on Grand Princess next month.

If true, and another ship isn't sent to New Orleans, it will be the second time in the past few years that Carnival has screwed New Orleans over.

PORT CANAVERAL — Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise company, will base a third ship at Port Canaveral.

Miami-based Carnival will bring its ship, the Ecstasy, to Port Canaveral and begin cruises possibly as early as this November, officials said today. The ship, currently based in Galveston, Texas, has a 2,056-guest capacity and a crew of 920.

Initially the ship will go to cruise terminal No. 3 and then later be moved to cruise terminal No. 6, which should be completed by June 2012.

The Ecstasy would be Carnival’s third home-ported ship at Port Canaveral, joining the Sensation and the Dream.

“It has the potential of generating between $4 million to $5 million in annual revenues for the port,” said J. Stanley Payne, the chief executive of the Canaveral Port Authority.
Port Canaveral, which bills itself as the world’s second busiest cruise port, has spent the last few years burnishing its cruise operations and making capital improvements to accommodate larger vessels.

Royal Caribbean International homeports two ships at Port Canaveral, the Monarch of the Seas and the Freedom of the Seas.

Disney Cruise Line bases two ships here. One is the Magic and the other is Disney’s newest, the 4,000-passenger Dream, which set sail in January.

Carnival has announced the date of Ecstacy's arrival at Port canaveral will be November 7.

That's * is an 8. Guess I was capital finger happy.
