    Carnival Cruise Lines leaves Dominica

    ROSEAU, Dominica, Thursday November 4, 2010 –

The Carnival Victory will from now sail past Dominica on its seven-day southern Caribbean cruise.

The vessel made its final call in Roseau on Tuesday, a decision Carnival Cruise Lines had previously indicated was based on saving on fuel costs and passenger dissatisfaction.

“The cost of fuel has forced us to restructure the Carnival Victory itinerary. Cancelling Dominica would save us more fuel than any other alternative considered. In addition to the fuel costs we have had complaints from our passengers regarding the excessive number of port calls on this seven day itinerary,” the company had said.

“It was a difficult decision to make and it was only for economic reasons that Dominica was removed from the schedule.”

With Dominica dropped from Victory’s itinerary, passengers will have an extra day at sea since no other port is being substituted.

Carnival Victory will continue to call in the five other scheduled ports on its itinerary, St Thomas, Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts and St Maarten.

That is a shame that they are leaving. I really liked the island. It's a beautiful island once you get away for the port area.

I agree, but our fellow cruisers don't like the port intensive S. Caribbean itinerary, plus Carnival claim they are burning more fuel docked in Roseau than any other port, so..... there you have it.

We rather prefer less sea days. We did the S Caribbean 4 times ~ 2x on Fascination, 1 on Destiny and 1 on Victory. The one on the Victory was the only one without any sea days. I don't know how we're going to handle the Dream
    with 2 sea days. I sure we'll figure out a way .

We prefer less sea day also, that's why we have not cruised on the Carnival Legend when she was in Ft Lauderdale, and the Carnival Miracle which is here now. Those itineraries have too many sea days. It's a shame because I'd love to cruise on that class of ship, but I'm not going to spend money on a cruise with that number of sea days on the Miracles' itinerary.

We cruised on the Victory out of San Juan, but a port every day was almost too much. There was little time to relax at sea, unless you just never explored a port. St. Thomas was the first stop, and I probably could have stayed on board, having been there on other cruises. But, as far as the other ports, it was interesting to learn the history of the area, and just kick back on a beach.

Having a break with a day at sea is often welcomed. Especially, one like Dominica that we don't really like very much.

If you been to Dominica previously, you could just stay on board the ship and relax.

We have been to Dominica several times -- we really like the island. Once you get away from the pier area -- it is so luch and green.

I am sorry to hear that Carnival is not going there anymore.

We are among the ones that like more port days and less sea days.
