    Question "Cruise Elegant" Nights

What is the recommended dress for men on "Cruise Elegant" nights?

    ... also ...

What do most men really wear on these "Elegant" nights?

    From Carnival's web site: "
Cruise elegant dress means dress slacks, dress shirts and sport coat (suggested not required) for men and cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses for women. On elegant nights, passengers may choose to dress more formally in suits and ties, tuxedos or evening gowns, but this level of dress is not required. " Sounds the same to me as semi-formal ?

I was going to wear my tuxedo, but unfortunately I put on weight and couldn't get in it so I wore a dark suit. It's nice to dress up once in awhile and it's a good night to take pictures.

Dark suites have been acceptable since I began sailing 17 plus years ago for men and cocktail skirts and blouses for ladies. Now I see some just using a sports coat and others just a tie. Then there are those who show up in blue jeans and a shirt.

I've seen more fuss made over a shirt without sleeves at breakfast than anyone not dressed on a so called formal/elegant night.

There's no mention of a tie!

Many folks always seem to do the least necessary! Probably means most men will wear long pants and a shirt with a collar ....

My DH has a tux (actually, three ... depending on what size he is at the time ) which he ALWAYS takes and doesn't mind wearing. Still, when few others are wearing one, it's not the same ... almost like being over-dressed.

You can NEVER be over dressed on a formal or elegant night, LuLu. Plus after dinner it's kind of cool to be sitting at the black jack table in a tux or evening gown, brings back the good of days of cruising

Yes, but you can tell by my looks it was a long time ago.

Great Picture! You don't look that different now!

Our only Carnival was a B2B on Carnival Glory about 4 years ago. The suggested dress is even more lax now. Even then, not too many bothered to wear a sports coat and tie ... much less a tux.

On a 7 Night (roundtrip) out of Charleston to Key West. I'm sort of thinking a sports coat for this one would fit in best with what others are wearing.

LuLu ~ when we went on the Victory last year elegant night was pretty laid back. Most of the men wore dress pants and shirts with collars, most didn't wear ties. We even saw people wearing shorts. We didn't go to the 1st elegant night cause I had forgotten my dress shoes. The next night when we went to the dining room our headwaiter wanted to know why we weren't there the night before, and I told him why. He said you can wear anything but your pajamas to the dining room . We went to the 2nd elegant night and I wore my sandals. Now that I think about it, he probably just wanted to make sure we came every night in hopes of getting a tip at the end. j/k Our headwaiter was great.
