Could Carnaval be right for us?

I'm totally new to cruising and am trying to decide which cruise line to book our cruise with. I don't want the TA BS ... I want the straight info from someone who's been there. We may never take another cruise, so I don't mind paying. I don't like a lot of the fru fru formal stuff. Is this the best line for me?

Hi again Wanda... From what you wrote, I'd say you'd be very happy with Carnival.. The atmosphere on Carnival is a little more laid back, but they still have formal nights and dress codes which you will find on all the other lines also.. You may also want to consider next, Princess, or then RCCI.. I've been on all three and found I liked Carnival a little better....

cruising

once you start you may not want to stop. I went with my husband on the Facination in 4/2004. I loved it. I started planning my second one right away! I am going on the Inspiration in 2 WEEKS (10/10/2005)! Looking forward to that. Going with my sister in law this time.

As for the straight talk...I went on the first cruise after I read everything I could read. I went to my travel agent. I told her my budget and the day I could go (that wasn't negotiable, I only had that week to go). When I came in to see what she had, she had me going to Mexico on Carnival instead of the Bahamas on another ship for the same amount of money...I already liked that. I booked that day and paid!

We were VERY pleased. The embarking is sometimes long. We were lucky about 45 minutes. Now Debarking is a different story...it is long...and somewhat like a cattle drive. We kept out luggage and debarked ourselves...you can choose to have them take your luggage the last night and then wait for you color to be called. That is more of a nightmare, personally to me.

The ship itself (Facination) was great. The cabins are big enough to move around in, we have an inside 4A guarantee. We were not upgraded...that was ok. For this trip we are taking we got an upgrade from a 1A (inside upper and lower beds) to a 5A (2 porthole stateroom-bed are on the floor).

FOOD...I like to eat. I also had to diet when I got home. The food is everywhere! You can have as many dinners as you want anlong with as many desserts you can hold. Noone judges you if you take a bite and say...can I have this instead. They get it and they are happy to get it for you. I wish they could have gone home with me, I got spoiled.

Land tours...we didn't do any. We wandered around in Key West...we were there only a few hours...We loved just looking around...make sure you walk by the Southern Most point! Got pictures there. Cozumel, Mexico...the place I thought I thought was GREAT! We walked around after a shared taxi into town, it was cheap ($3.00 american). We walked from where we were dropped off to the edge of town. Tokk another taxi to a beach...BEAUTIFUL! Stayed there for a few housrs to swim and snorkle...then abouther taxi back to the ship...shopped some more.

Entertainment....on the ship it was great...I can't use that enough. I saw all the shows, on that last night I even got on the stage and "performed" and got my very own "24 caret ship on a stick"!

The experience is awsome. The food is great, the shows WONDERFUL. Overall, it is what you make it. All in all enjoy yourself! You will find yourself saving for another one. I am planning for my 3rd and 4th one and I haven't even been on the 2nd on yet! Once you go you will be hooked!

Thanks for your input. I think I've narrowed it down to Carnival or Royal Caribbean. You have all been most helpful and I appreciate it!

I have sailed Carnival and RCI among others...WE love Carnival...we are also going in April of 2006, as I got a group rate. This year we will have a balcony cabin, our first, and the older two kiddos will have their own inside cabin. My parents are coming too, we are going to celebrate their 30th anniversary (I am well over 30, lol...2nd marriage) and another travel agent friend is coming. I still have space left and was trying to get my uncle and aunt to come...they are kinda cheap...we have had 3 couples back out, for various reasons...

Anyway....I do recommend Carnival, the newer ships are big and bright and fun. The food is excellent etc. I think they are one of the best values for cruising. I could get a suite for what some lines charge for lower category cabins.

Good luck with your decision...
