We made use of the "Self Assist" method of debarking and liked it very much.. They called for self assist to debark at 0715.. We were off the ship, out of the terminal, across the street on the second floor of the parking garage, putting our luggage in the car at 0750 and driving out the pier's gate at 0800.. Beautiful, just beautiful...

Opinions needed here too.

My first cruise on the NCL Gem we chose not to self assist and chose the first time after that. So many people (I guess most of us NYers are in a big hurry andwe were docked in NY) chose the self assist the line went around the ship and took a long time. We went down, found our luggage, had problems with finding two bags that were dropped in the river, filled out claim forms, got a porter and with the porter were thru customs while many of the self assist people were still on line for customs. I see no reason to rush off the boat and end my vacation sooner. Last cruise I had a late flight, so I took an excursion from NCL of a tour of New Orleans and they made debarkation easy for the excursion people and we put our bags on the tour bus which also dropped us off at the airport.
