Canival Dream to be based at Port Canaveral

Carnival Cruise Lines - News Release

New 130,000-ton Carnival Dream to be Based at Port Canaveral 04/23/2008 MIAMI (April 23, 2008) – Carnival Cruise Lines has announced that the new 130,000-ton Carnival Dream – the largest “Fun Ship” ever constructed – will be based at Port Canaveral, Fla., beginning in fall 2009. Details on the ship’s itinerary will be provided at a later date.

Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the 3,652-passenger Carnival Dream is the first in a new class of ship for the line with a unique interior design, sleek hull and distinctive profile, along with a host of innovative facilities and features which will be released in the coming months.

The deployment of the Carnival Dream to Port Canaveral continues the line’s 18-year relationship with the Canaveral Port Authority, the longest tenure of any cruise line there.

In addition to the Carnival Dream, the line has two other “Fun Ships” scheduled to enter service – the 113,300-ton Carnival Splendor, set to debut in Europe July 2, 2008, and the 130,000-ton Carnival Magic, slated for delivery in June 2011.

Carnival is the largest and most popular cruise line in the world, with 22 “Fun Ships” operating three- to 18-day voyages to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Canada, New England, Europe and South America.

For additional information on the “Fun Ship” vacation experience, contact any travel agent, call 1-800-CARNIVAL or visit carnival.com

But with so many large ships would the ease of boarding in PC be compromised? Would it get to be more like the South Florida ports? What about the parking? Are the expansion plans for the port taking into account the sheer number of passengers who will be converging on the port in cars? Ease my mind, please.

Disney will be building a brand new terminal.

Don't know what will happen with the old one... Overflow, maybe??? (It's a thought)

Hmmm . . . after a few minutes of research, it appears that Disney may be doing a major expansion of their existing terminal, instead of building a new one.

Still searching . . .

It's likely that the Carnival Dream and the Freedom of the Seas will likely share Cruise Terminal 10 at the port:

Cruise Terminal 10

Homeported ships using this facility: Carnival Glory; Royal Caribbean International’s Sovereign of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas

Designed passenger load: 3,700

1,100 foot docking space; 700 foot pier space, 50 feet wide with –35’ feet MLW draft; 80,000 square-foot embarkation/baggage handling facility; 2,150 parking spaces, including 1,200-vehicle parking garage

Cruise Terminal 10 was designed to accommodate two medium ships or one mega-ship up to 130,000 gross registered tons.
The three-tiered passenger loading tower includes an elevator, four escalators and an adjustable hydraulic gangway system. This ultra-modern terminal features Port Canaveral’s first automated baggage conveyor system.
