    Luggage Mats on Carnival Ships

O.K., please excuse my ignorance. Why does the room steward place a luggage mat on your bed at the beginning and ending of each cruise. Is it just there to protect the bedding from your luggage while unpacking and packing? Are you supposed to use it when storing your empty luggage under the bed? Neither my DH nor I have figured out exactly why we have a luggage mat. There is a rod on one side and some ties on the other?? Anyone care to explain? (I guess we are the poor hicks gone a cruisin)

Man, this is news to me, a Luggage mat on your bed at the beginning and end of the cruise? We never had any such thing on either ship. I can only speculate that some folks place their luggage on the beds when unpacking, and they have found some serious stains or something that's soiling the bedding, hence those luxurious mats.

The first time I ever saw one of the luggage mats was a year ago. They've been on every cruise since then. I might just have to get up enough nerve to ask the room steward what the deal is.

I would've had the nerve the first time I saw him, that's just me.

You are exactly correct, the mat is there to protect the bed linens. the rod is to help roll the mat up and the ties to keep the mat from unrolling.

I found the mat to be a nice feature as it does protect the bedding and I did not have to worry what may be on the wheels of my luggage when I placed it on the bed to pack it.

Thanks for explaining Candy, I'd never seen them and wondered what they were

Never seen them on RCL. Must be a Carnival only thing. Nice touch.
Now we'll know to look for one in our cabin on the Valor in October.
    Thanks!

Yep, to protect those fine, nice, new, sleep-like-a-baby, $399 Comfort linens. Spent too much money to have them soiled too quickly.

Well, it's good to know I was using it correctly even though I wasn't sure. It is nice to know the nasty wheels of all our luggage haven't soiled those gorgeous duvet covers.
