Welcome to the site. Well done on a lovely Christmas present.

Are you concerned you've paid too much for airfare? What are you're exact concerns and maybe we can help to alleviate them or help find you a better travel plan.

I look forward to hearing more and hope you and Sandie get a chance to talk shop/cruise/St. Louis.

Happy New Year and thanks again for joining and posting.

    Cheers!

Welcome to CLF!! You've come to the right place for information.

As for your flights, have your agent shop around, including the cruise line, and see who has the best airfare and times for you. Sometimes, getting airfare through the cruise line can be a good deal, while other times it can cost more and not provide good connections. Normally, you don't want to book airfare more than 6 months prior to departure as times and prices can change.

But when flying to Europe, you really need to travel over there at the minimum one day prior to the cruise. From the East coast, it's roughly an 8 hour flight and there's a 6 hour time change. So if you get there the day before, you have a day to recover from the trip before you begin the cruise. Personally, we prefer to go over a few days before so we can do some sightseeing. We'll fly into one city and then take the train to where we want to go until we end up in the city where the ship is leaving from. Trains in Europe are awesome and a great way to get around. You can check out the Rail Europe site for information. We've sold alot of tickets and have used them ourselves for more than 4 weeks worth of travel all over Europe. But Barcelona is a beautiful city and it would be a shame to fly over and not take some time to see it.

Steve & Linda - great minds think alike! This cruise is our Christmas gift to each other, too. We have figured on flying in one day ahead of time, since vacation time is tight. We're working with Pete (Cruise Planner), and we'll be coordinating flights, hotels, etc. This is a great site for finding information, reading reviews, and getting to know other cruisers who can share their experiences. By the way, we live in north St. Louis County, about 5 miles from the airport.

Wow all these post thanks everyone for the info. I have made my own air and hotel reservations found a good deal on air. Was a little slow on booking though. Had to make some phone calls and check out the airlines No for real. We will be flying Pakistan airlines from Chicago non stop to Barcelona in business class for 658.70 each. there is only flights on saturday and wednesday so we will leave on the 3rd the saturday before the cruise and stay two nights at the Renaissance at the airport there was mixed reviews on this hotel but free shuttle from the airport and to downtown also two the cruise port on wednesday. there are some airline reviews on airliner .net that tell about pakistans business class service it is a dry airline ie no mixed drinks. I think I will be ok for eight hours ha. Thanks again for all the post and info and sorry it took sooo long for me to get back. Steve

Holy Cow, Steve - Great air review and site. I've never seen it before and have been reading reviews all morning.

If I can convince you to write a cruise review half as detailed as this airline review above, I'll owe you a beer/burger in the future. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I'm so glad you all have met up online - despite the fact that you're just 20-30 miles apart. Small world.

Thanks again for checking in !
