Yes, the landings can be a bit rough, especially if the the wind suddenly picks up or if the pilot is inexperienced or unfamiliar with the terrain.

Albuquerque hosts the International Balloon Fiesta every fall so we have a bit of experience with them.

When parasailing, is there a little bench type seat to sit on ??? or do you just hang dangling ????

No...there's no bench per se, but you are harnessed in around your legs which provides a natural "seat". You are dangling, but in a sitting position....does that make sense???

We went ballooning in Temecula, and the operators there are VERY qualified and know who has dogs, and owners alike, that would get upset if you land on their property...

No dangling...I like that! I have to keep researching it though because I like the idea of the platform take-off. ----Just wheel me out and wheel me in!

I'm a tad worried about landing on the sand.

I've taken off from the beach and landed in the water before. It was great. The view was amazing and the water landing was smooth. Within seconds the boat was there to pick me up!

This was in Thailand

Landing in the sand is not that bad. As long as you have you knee's slightly bent. If they are stiff you could hurt yourself. You are not dropping too fast.
