    St Thomas/St. Marten

We are cruising the eatern caribbean in a few weeks and are taking my husband's parents. Due to their age we are looking for some "low impact" excursions. I'm told that while the cruise line offers nice excursions you can see a lot more for less if you venture out on your own. Has anyone done that and if so what do you suggest we do in these 2 ports.

    Thanks for your help,

    Brenda

Welcome to CLF , while I have been to St. thomas is was some time ago but I would imagine either just walking around and touring or getting a taxi cab driver to tour you around the island would be a good way to go. The main point is take it slow and easy, and this is very much their style!

Hi Brenda.. We've used and highly recommed Godfrey, at, godfrey@godfreytoursvi.com . He offers the same tour as the ship at half the cost.. He is good and efficient.. You will be happy with him.... Bombero.

We enjoyed both St Maartin and St Thomas when we were there on the Mariner of the Seas.

The tramway ride to the top of Paradise Point was fun. Beautiful view. Took a picture of the harbor from up there, and you could swear it is a postcard!

If they are beach people, get a cab to a beach for each island. There are gorgeous ones at each island. Both islands have a lot to see, so driving tours would be good as well. On St. Maarten, the traffic is HORRIBLE. So be sure to leave early to make sure you are back to the ship in time.

Both places also have good shopping streets, if they are up to walking and window shopping. On St. Thomas, take a cab to the Main Street.

On St. Maarten, there is a ferry from the cruise ship dock to their "downtown" area. Because the traffic is one way, they say to take a ferry going to the shopping area, and walk back toward ther ship. When you get to the end of the shopping area, walk back. But ask at guest relations what their recommendation is, if your parents' mobility is limited.

Here is a website for St. Thomas. Take a look and see what you would be interested in. Then you can work out what you want in a tour.

I just got back from St Thomas and St Maartin. The skyride is a great way to see the view of the harbor. I took a ton of pictures mine may not look like a post card but I think they are good.
