Never! They LOVE the US dollars!

BUT...if you give them a US bill that requires change back they will give you the local currency, so be sure to have small bills when going ashore if you plan to buy anything.

As usual, sound advice Char. Though the way prices have gone up over the years I often wonder why people buy so much stuff. The savings just is not there anymore from what I have seen lately.

The only Caribbean island we've ever had a problem was Guadeloupe! The day we were in port there, they did not want us there and did not want our money. No desire to return to Guadeloupe!

Some Caribbean ports (like Bonaire) have major stores/resorts that will not accept US $100 bills. We love Bonaire and hope to return.

We always take small bills anyway for the reason Char mentioned.

Almost always have exact change. Just realized something, almost always the prices are in whole dollars.
