We spent two weeks on the beautiful island of Cuba. We found the people nice, and even though things are different to what we are used to, such as food and cloth rationing, tourist travelling in modern coaches, local in the back of a big lorry. We have to remember these things are their way of life. Shocked in my own Country last week when I saw people sleeping in doorways.
Many things are worse on other islands. We stayed in the Holguin area which was very pretty. This was at the bottom of the island a long way from Havana. We visited Santiago de Cuba where some non US cruise visit.
Would have love to have visited Havana, but would not do the trip, first time in my life I would not fly, to frightened, Russian Turbo prop planes were the transport, one was just leaving when we arrived, noise was horrendous. Decided to enjoy seeing the classic cars where we were.
I would most certainly recommend a visit when able and we hope to return someday.
