Thread: Which Caribbean Islands Sometiimes Charge to Use Public Toilets?

Know for sure some in St.Maaten/St.Martin and Dominica do. There are some others as well ... but I can't remember.

It's no problem when there's an attendant ... but, the ones that only take coins are! Gives a whole new meaning to "Know before you go!"

When we went to the Emerald Pool in Dominica we didn't have to pay to use the restrooms.

Also in St Maarten, the places that we went to at Orinet Beach - no charge.

But the public toilets in Curacao -- you have to pay yo use them.

This may seem like a silly post ... but ... not if you are caught without small bills and there is a charge to use the facilities ....

Not a silly post at all Lulu. I remember in St Thomas I was looking for the "place" and finally found one that did have an attendant. Not that she helped out much, since one of the two little rooms was out of order and the other, well...it had no tp. Learned many a moon ago to always carry some kleenex or the like just in case. But carrying change is something our posters might not think about at all.

Do feel it's important that folks know there are places in the Caribbean where money is required to use the facilities ... and can vary even within each island / port stop ....

Guess, I just expect it in Europe. There, too, it depends on the place even within the same city.

In St. Maarten... many don't and many do.

Kelly .... You probably won't have a problem anyplace ... but who knows!
Best to be ready ... just in case!

Many times we stop by into the local tourist bureau building and they offer
this service to tourists.

A very nice courtesy for visitors.

I never carry any cash so I hope they come with a credit card swiper
