    Pirate Attacks in the Caribbean

No, pirates have not attacked any cruise ship in the Caribbean. And, no, the area isn't the hotbed of pirate and terrorist activity against ships that other area (Somalia, Nigeria, Indonesia) are.

But, there HAVE been a few acutal pirate attacks in the Caribbean. Three were reported in 2005, and I'll post the stories of those in the next three posts.

So, if no cruise ships have been attacked, what's the point of this thread?

Just a reminder that, although we tend to feel SAFE on our cruises, we DO lsometimes venture into areas with dangers of which we are unaware, and it's wise to pack a dose of caution along with your sunscreen. And hold your children close.

It's still a concern to folks with private yachts who sail in the Caribbean (much more so than many may think) ... but, I'm told, less than it once was because of much better communication.

Funny: Once, some we know were awaken by their yacht captain because they were being closely followed and he was very concerned. Turns out ... the man in the yacht following them did not hire a captain (throught he could sail it himself ) and was lost so he decided to just follow them since they would eventually lead him to some port!

At least the pirates in the Caribbean are not on a par with the ones in Somalian waters! They are currently holding a vessel and it's crew of 30. Fortunately, no passengers were aboard.
