Ships calling at Trinidad

Seems like more stops at Trinidad are being planned by some of the various cruiselines.

This southernmost Caribbean island is dynamic. It is said to be the birthplace of calypso, the steel band and the limbo. Festive shows are popular in the evenings. Trinidad also boasts a magnificent landscape and exotic wildlife. Tourists will want to visit the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the Asa Wright Nature Centre, the Royal Botanic Gardens and a sugar or coconut plantation.

Holy Rosary RC Church, Henry Street, Port of Spain.
(Marc Seyon/www.ttltt.com)

Long before the architecture of Port of Spain picked up varied metropolitan trends and the demand for space crushed shops and offices together, places of worship would have dominated the skyline.

The Holy Rosary Church, towards the eastern end of Park Street, is so hemmed in that your best view of it is reflected in the bright glass panes of the bank across the street. Dating back to 1866, this Catholic church is built in the Gothic revival style and currently undergoing major restoration work

They are modernising the cruise port in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. There is a new 428 room Hyatt Regency Hotel on the waterfront. The pier in Scarborough, Tobago, the sister island has been lengthened and the sea floor dredged to handle up to the Voyager Class cruise ships.

Wow - That's really good news, Ken!
Maybe there will soon be more varied itineraries to that part of the world, because more ships can dock at Tobago.

Wouldn't that be wonderful? I'd LOVE to go there!

Yes, it would be for US cruise passengers, Sheila. It is a popular cruise port of call for European cruise ships like Fred Olsen and some others.
They are making a concerted effort to open T&T up to the US cruise market. In addition to the improvements I mentioned about Scarborough, Tobago, the cruise port in the sister-island, there is a new port being built in another part of Tobago.
