Snuba Excursion - Have you been on one?

Has anyone ever taken a snuba excursion? Our ship doesn't offer one, but I see that there is one by a company that will either take you to St. John or St. Thomas. So, I'm trying to find more about each one. Has anyone ever done one of these?

This is something I have been itching to try, too.

(Of course it is... it involves immersing yourself in the caribbean!)

What is snuba basically? Is it a way to pump surface air down or is it simply a long tube to a float for air?

Snuba 25 words or less

A Snuba is a weighted bell-type helmet that you wear on your head. It seems to rest on your shoulders. Air is pumped from the surface into the helmet. You can descend and walk around with the helmet in place. That's all I know.

We signed up for snuba thru www.visnuba.com for the first week in Sept. in St. Thomas. The cruise ship wasn't offering this as a shore excursion. I'm sooooo excited about it. According to the pictures, it looks like we will not have a helmet, but will have an airhose (the main air will be in a boat floating along with us.). Other than that, it looks very similiar to snorkeling. The airhose will allow us to dive to up to 20' or to our comfort zone. I'll let everyone know all about it when we return. Looks like so far, no one on these threads has ever tried it.
