Cancelling excursions

Has anyone ever booked excursions on your own, and have inclement weather change your itinerary so you miss the ports or get there on different days than originally scheduled? What happens? We're booked for the western caribbean in peak hurricane season -- just wondering how this works out....

Yes, I know that's another good reason to book thru the cruiseline!!!

i was reading

on one of the private tour companies web sites, and they had a specific cancel policy. I have read here that most won't charge, but there are conditions. You might try finding the web site of the one you are interested in, and email them or read it on their web site.

Hope this helps.

Sue

On our second cruise, we had a shore excursion that was cancelled due to rain but it was through the cruiseline so there were no worries there. We just ended going to museums that day and that was fine.

On our last cruise, the captain decided to skip Kona because of high waves. After his announcement, I went to the Promenade deck to get my one glimpse of the port. And there were many people on their cell phones cancelling their independent excursions. Anyone with a Princess excursion didn't have to worry. Somebody mentioned that one couple aboard had planned a wedding in Kona, with family members and friends meeting them there.

I remember someone who was on the Island Princess in April 2005 and discovered, after Kauai was cancelled, that she was on the hook for half of her helicopter excursion that she couldn't take.

So, if you decide to go on an independent excursion, remember:
before you book, check the cancellation policies and
there's always the possibility of a port being missed due to weather or mechanical problems.
