    Lightbulb Overcrowded Ports of Call

Since cruising has become so popular and lots of the Caribbean ports are subject to overcrowding (which we all hate), I try to check the Cruise Calendar site www.cruisecal.com before I book. I just booked on the Maasdam for October 17th because there were fewer ships in port for that itinerary than the next one on the 28th (two ships in St. Thomas as opposed to six). Of course, this doesn't help much if my plans aren't flexible but at least I'll know what to expect.

You will note in his "Links" section, that he does have a link to this site!

I am really expecting Cozumel to get busy the next few years if the cruise lines have there way and double the dock capacity as they rebuild the piers. Just way too many people!

Sitting at Ft Lauderdale airport now, waiting for our plane back to Detroit. FYI, Wednesday at St Martin, Caribbean Princess, Exporer of the Seas, Carnival Glory and Carnival Valor (I think) and a sailing cruise ship at anchor. I St. Thomas three ships at Havensite dock and two at the Crown Bay port. Towns and beaches where wall to wall people. It was stil a great time. I'll have a review of the Caribbean Princess eastern carib itinerary soon (I hope)

One good thing about our upcoming Serenade cruise is that in St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Antigua, and Barbados we will be the only ship docked there! It St. Lucia it only shows the Artemis docked there with us. I cannot imagine how it would be, for instance, to be on GC when Freedom and 6 other ships are there. Talk about overcrowding!

If we get into Grand Cayman knowing there are 6 ships in port, we will generally call it an onboard day. Just too many people for that small of a port/downtown area for this cruiser!!
    Loca Lady
    HAL-152 days; Celebrity-27 days; RCCL-28 days; Disney-7 days Total- 214 days
Coming up- 11/07 Veendam, 2/08 Oosterdam Yum Yum Man cruise, 9/08 Eurodam NE/Canada
