From Caribbean Net News:

The latest computer models showed Dean slamming into Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula early in the week and then hitting the northern Mexico coast rather than threatening the most critical US offshore oil and gas production areas.

Mexican authorities began evacuations on the Caribbean coast, while US President George W. Bush issued an emergency declaration for Texas to free up federal help and funds.

Govermnemt authorities in Mexico are now alerting all travel agents that NO more visitors are to be sent to Cancun.

There is currently an exodus of tourists from the area. Cancun needs to take care of its own now . . .

The storm was expected to clip Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and enter the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Authorities on Mexico's Caribbean coast began evacuating tourists and residents from low-lying Holbox island north of Cancun on Saturday. A total of 2,200 people, including some 250 Mexican and foreign tourists, were ordered to leave, state officials said.

Life in Cozumel and Cancun is back to normal. Many residents have been assisting in relief efforts for the Mayan zone. And yes, from Puerto Aventuras to the southern parts of the state things are quite bad. In Chetumal the water flooded at least five blocks from the bay area inland. Cozumel lost power during the first hours of Tuesday and there's a lot of sand on the roads on other side of the Island, some roads did not do so well; there wasn't too much rain as the winds were quite strong. Many residents in Cozumel will leave their homes "boarded-up" and "just in case".
