Saint John, New Brunswick tourist site

Here's a link to the official tourist site for the city of Saint John, New Brunswick....Canada's oldest incorporated city and a stop for many cruise lines doing the Canada/New England itinerary.

I was in Saint John this morning and there were 2 ships in port, the Explorer of the Seas, and the Carnival Victory. It was a sunny day with temps in the low to mid '70's. Hope they had a good time.

We'll be there next week! Leaving Baltimore on Friday 9/21 for a 9-night New England/Canada cruise (our 29th).

We can't wait! It's someplace we never thought about going, but now that we are, we are very excited about it.

    Thanks for the link!!

Saint John was wonderful! We were met at the pier by representatives giving each woman a rose and each man a hat pin.

There were two very large tents; one was for those taking shore excursions to meet up with their guides and the other one was full of local crafts people.

We walked over to the City Market via the inside walk-way. This is several shopping areas connected by overhead passage so that you could shop without going outside, which would be great during those cold winters.

We then went back to the tented areas to meet up with our guide. We were on a Seminar-at-Sea for travel agents and the tourism bureau provided each of us a free shore excursion. We had chosen to do the sea kayak adventure with a lobster lunch, but it was cancelled due to the weather, so we ended up doing a wine-tasting lunch at a local restaurant; The Opera Bistro. It was very nice and we got to try some wonderful Canadian wines.

Following that, we only had about an hour remaining before we had to attend a wine & cheese party sponsored by the tourism bureau. So, 6 of us decided to grab a taxi van and have him drive us around for a quick tour of the city. We got to see the reversing falls, which is quite a unique natural event.

We then arrived back at the ship for our wine & cheese party and dropped our business card in a drawing for 10 pounds of lobster. And we won!! We are suppose to arrange shipment of the lobster in the next week, so we're looking forward to a wonderful lobster feast.

Overall, we absolutely loved the itinerary! The Grandeur of the Seas was recently reburbished. We had been on it twice before and it was in desperate need of refurbishment and looked alot nicer. The food on the ship was better than last time, but still disappointing compared to what we had on the Crown Princess, the Liberty of the Seas, and the HAL Zaandam - which we've also been on this year.

Hadn't really thought about a Canada/New England cruise, but I'm sure glad we went. I would definitely recommend the itinerary and we're thinking about doing it again only next time it'll be a one-way trip to Montreal so we can visit more of Canada.

Bar Harbor was absolutely beautiful, Halifax was great, Portland was good - we rented a van and drove north to Freeport and then south to Kennebunkport (and yes, we took the obligatory pictures of the Bush's compound), and Boston was very interesting and educational.

Overall, wonderful 9-day cruise. Just wish the food and the bedding was better.

    Wow -
That is also one itinerry we have never considered... but, from your description, it sounds like it might be a nice change of pace one day.
