You drive on the bridge to the hotel. There is a marina there also. I haven't been in the hotel. It looks great though. It is a nice looking one also. You will see people fishing from the piers and from the bridge.
Some of the yachts you can see are amazing looking. It is also a close walk to shopping. This is located on Goat Island. The bridge to it is a flat one. The other picture you can see the Pell bridge.
Can I walk to the business district. They have an airport shuttle for 15.00/person so do you think I should just use that or will I need to rent a car? What do you think?
For info on the Rhode Island transportation go to www.ripta.com . I hope that link is ok in here. It will give you the info on the ferry to Block Island too. There are buses that do the beaches only. There is a trolly car bus that takes you to the Belvue area. (that is where most of the mansions are) Your hotel is very close to the main hub for the island. All buses go out of there. Thames street is close walking distance. I will check out what events will be going on during the time you will be out here.
I know some people don't like public transportation. Ours really isn't that bad. Not too crowded either. I think the cost is $1.25.
I was just in Newport this past weekend. It really is so beautiful, I never get sick of going there. We took the hi-speed ferry from Providence. It's a great ride! You could take it over to Providence and do the trip in reverse. www.nefastferry.com There is a waterfire on Sat, Sept 16th which I recommend as something great to do when in RI and lots of great restaurants in downtown Providence as well. www.waterfire.com There is also a water taxi service that will take you from Goat Island or downtown Newport to Fort Adams which is a cool place to visit with great views of the Newport bridge and the harbor. They have a tour of the old fort if history interests you. www.fortadams.org
