LAX is ALWAYS under construction! (It was under construction the first time I went there in the early 80's and every time I have been there since)

I think the mayor of LA wants to get credit for the airport getting renovated (he has to step down next July because of term limits).

Well, you can always fly out of Ontario, Burbank, or Orange County! (in addition to LAX)

Ontario airport is very far...even in the best of traffic through Los Angeles, it's going to be more than an hour, and most likely will have to go through the not-so-great areas of LA county. Would be a pain to take a bus (assuming there's one that goes that way) and a taxi would be expensive. It's less mileage from Burbank airport, but still would take a long time as you're going through congested areas. John Wayne (Orange County) airport would be better in terms of distance and time. There's also Long Beach airport, but not all airlines fly into there. But it's relatively close to both the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

I do advise flying in at least a day ahead and then you don't have to worry about traffic (as well as delayed or cancelled flights). If someone decides to fly into LAX (more airlines and flight options), they can take a taxi or Super shuttle to the hotel (San Pedro and Long Beach would be the closest places to stay).

But, Patty, if you live in Orange County (like I did when I was down there) John Wayne is so much better to get to!

I've lived in the Valley much of my life, but have never flown out of Burbank, just LAX.

Well, LAX is an interesting place in and of itself and there are a heck of a lot of flights going in there!

Then there's Van Nuys airport. But just small planes and helicopters use that airport. There's a nifty restaurant that's nearby.
