Patty mentioned taking 2nd graders to the Getty Museum. They have a wonderful program for children of school age, and if you have a preschooler who is arts and craftsy, there are things for them too.

There is a building set aside for children with interactive displays that have mockups off some of the works. Older kids will enjoy practicing Calligraphy, little kids will enjoy sitting in a French Provincial bed and reading books, and all will enjoy making masks. There are cards with pictures of either 4 or 8 pieces of art found throughout the museum, with questions for the kids to answer or think about. My niece got to do one last year when she was 2 and a half, and this year she got to look for more, now that she is 4. She and her friend both squealed when they found one of the paintings, but the guards didn't mind.

And if you do not care for the art, the scenery from the courtyard between the buidings is fine too.

I found Mann's chinese theatre a bit nostalgic. You really do need to explain to the younger generation who all the prints belong to. Otherwise, they have no idea what it is all about.

The farmers market used to be fun. Don't know how it has changed since I was last there. You could get almost anything there (even food if you looked hard enough)

    How about NBC studios?
I think the last time I've been to Farmers Market was when the Grove mall was being built. Haven't seen the new mall yet.

Been on the NBC Studios tour twice. That's about the only way you can be on the lot, unless you're going to Leno or Ellen's shows. There used to be a few other ways (a popular doorprize or raffle prize at soap opera events was a trip to the set but I don't know if they still offer those).

Yes there is a great and famous mexican restaurant in Old Town.

I've seen it featured on the Food Network and other television shows a few times

In Long Beach there is a Restaurant for the Rib's Lover, the best Beef ribs ever will be found at Lucille's Its about a 10 minute ride but worth it. Oh if you have a whole day you could jump on the boat and spend the day at Catalina Island and come back the same day. (Its a fun day trip) If you have more time and want to see more there is Olivera Street which is across from the Union Train Station and real close to Phillip's Original French Dip (prices are cheap) food is great!! Its on Ord st. it was on the California Gold program on Tv, which said don't miss out this oportunity to visit this historical place, its amazing.
